Abstract

Ravenia Martin struggles against her abusive foster parents until being rescued by a Kittanning doctor who sends her to boarding school in Central Pennsylvania. At marrying age, Ravenia is abused further by men and she must move west to escape.

Author Biography

Annie Hamilton Nelles Dumond (1837-1903) is known best for her 1868 autobiography Annie Nelles; or, The Life of a Book Agent, a melodramatic account of her experiences as a book peddler in the Midwest in the 1860s.
