Abstract | After Nicholas Kenleigh is captured and tortured by Wyandot Indians, he retreats into the wilderness for six years. Wounded, he happens upon the cabin of Elspeth “Bethie” Stewart—pregnant and also an abuse victim—who cautiously ties and binds Nicholas before treating his injuries.
