Abstract |
Pete “Skag” Skagska (Karl Malden), a 50-something, Serbian-Orthodox union foreman of a Pittsburgh steel mill, suffers a stroke. During his recovery, Skag balances a younger second wife, an invalid father, and three troublesome kids, one of whom still works in the mill.

Abby Mann (1927-2008) was born Abraham Goodman in Philadelphia and raised in East Pittsburgh, Allegheny County. He was a screenwriter, director, and producer best known for the film Judgment at Nuremberg (1961) and the TV series Kojak (1973-1977).
