Abstract |
A high school battle of the bands contest unites four incompatible seniors, each an outcast, who form a rock group they dub “The Stereotypical Freaks.” Tom Leonard is a 4.2-GPA brainiac; Dan Roberts is a chubby “goof with zero social skills;” and Marcell Bennett is an African-American football star. The fourth member, the drummer, is Jacoby Hunter Nukik—a super shy exchange student from Nunavut, Canada’s northernmost territory—who is teased as the school's “Eskimo boy.” When one of the band members divulges his life-threatening illness, the boys bond even more as they rehearse for the contest. |
