Abstract | A novelization of the Johnstown Flood of 1889. |
Author Biography | Alexander Duke Bailie (1840-90), born in Lancaster County, was a Civil War veteran. He was severely wounded during a battle in Virginia, which was followed by many operations, amputations, and bouts of depression, all of which rendered Bailie unable to hold conventional jobs. He wrote, therefore, with success for magazines and book publishers. Bailie committed suicide in Chicago in September 1890. |
