Abstract |
Kassima is in mourning for her husband, who died of AIDS in prison, and two sons who died of gang violence. When Kassima falls for Robert Jones, she fears losing him to the streets as well. Kassima’s tenant, Martin Mallory—an eccentric, unwell, World War II veteran, and amateur photographer—provides commentary on Kassima’s affair with Robert, as well as memories of the War and the MOVE founder John Africa. “A somber, eloquent meditation on isolation and violence,” says Kirkus Reviews.
