Abstract |
Protagonist Abby Hale, an English convict condemned to death by a London court, earns clemency if she serves as an indentured servant. Two men bid for her: Captain Christopher Holden wins but releases her in America, where the loser, Martin Garth, kidnaps her and sets out for the western frontier. After many obstacles, Captain Holden rescues Abby at Ft. Pitt, but Pontiac’s Rebellion erupts and further complicates their romance.
