Abstract | An ethical, Presbyterian tale of “the effect of sudden wealth upon the mountain folk,” says Book Review Digest. |
Author Biography | The Rev. Dr. Richard Sill Holmes (1842-1912), born in Brooklyn, was ordained to the ministry in 1887 and preached for three years in Warren County, near oil country. He served Pittsburgh from 1890 to 1904 as pastor of Shadyside Presbyterian Church, one of the city's leading congregations. Not only a clergyman, magazine editor, and educator, Holmes—after the age of 65—managed to publish a book of poems and three novels. |
