Author Biography | George William Gerwig (1867-1950), born in Paris, France to Pittsburgh parents, attended the University of Nebraska and earned his Ph.D. from the Western University of Pennsylvania (now the University of Pittsburgh). The longtime secretary of the Pittsburgh Board of Public Education, Gerwig reportedly bid his college friend, Willa Cather, to come to Pittsburgh to teach English at Allegheny High School. |
