The story follows a man who leaves the climate-change damaged Earth, leaving his family behind, on a contract that guarantees that his family will live well on Earth and he will have a good job on another planet. Of course, everything goes wrong, and he ends up doing basic labor with poor housing, inadequate food, and so forth. Over time he becomes a leader of the resistance.
