The “Preface” to the 1908 ed. says that this poem and eleven others were first published “in a volume by several authors called ‘The Garland’,” which is probably The Garland of New Poetry by Various Authors. London: Elkin Mathews, 1899, which contains twelve poems by the author but not this one. The 1954 edition places the poem as 1900 without explanation.
