Annotation | The story is set in a future where people who can afford to or can get a labor contract are leaving Earth. The point-of-view character is a woman who does not want to leave whose partner has a contract for both of them. Following odd clues, she discovers a movement called the Keepers who are rewilding the planet as well as inner city gardening, beekeeping, and other projects to heal Earth. One of them is the need for a change in language to eliminate the distinction between humans and the natural world. The story was awarded first prize in the climate fiction contest.
