A young adult post-catastrophe quest and environmental dystopia. The first of four volumes in which a young man travels down the North Island of New Zealand and onto the South Island. In the process, he comes in contact with a number of primitive dystopian societies from which he must escape. In this volume, he and an old woman are expelled from their tribe and begin the trek with the old woman teaching her skills like weaving and passing on her knowledge of the land.
