The author's (1814?-1898) first name is sometimes spelled Johann and is cataloged as such at O. In the “Preface” to 1876 Petzler says that he shared imprisonment in France with Pierre-Joseph Proudhon (1809-65), the mutualist and anarchist theorist. After his release, he was expelled to England.
