The second volume of the Sea Venture (CV) trilogy after his 1985 CV. In this volume the symbiont spreads throughout a large part of the population, and after it has infected most people the symbionts collectively decide to stop human violence. They do this by killing anyone who is about to commit violence. The third volume is his 1991 A Reasonable World. An earlier, related story is his 1954 “Rule Golden” where anyone who kills dies and anyone who inflicts pain feels the same pain. |
