A collection of stories all set on a colonized planet that was no longer profitable and was set to be abandoned with the people who had settled there to be evacuated and sent to a desolate mining planet. The stories concern the choices made by individuals, the dumping on the planet of some people who were inconveniently in transit to another planet, and the many different experiences of those who stayed.
