AbstractIn Michigan the small group instructional method was compared to the traditional one-to-one instructional method. Comparison of the instructional groups was made at both the national level and within the state. The report of the ten states that participated in the national study is title, "An Experimental Evaluation of Nutrition Education Methods." Four Michigan counties participated in the national study evaluated by Stanford Research International: Genesee, Kent, Macomb, Oakland. This study was conducted in Bay, Berrien, Calhoun, Dickenson, Ingham, Kalamazoo, Lenawee, Monroe, Saginaw, and St. Clair counties. It is concluded that both one-to-one and group instruction are effective methods for teaching low-income homemakers, provided that the curriculum is expanded and tailored to the needs and competencies of the individual learner.
